My little brain was soaked in music before I could walk. Every kind of music from symphony to spirituals had a place in our home vinyl library. Piano, 'cello, guitar, then banjo, autoharp, and pennywhistle all found a place in my brain and heart. Early career days were spent in pastoral ministry (with an inescapable musical flavor). But still bent on becoming America's first and pre-eminent folk'n'blues superstar, I later spent 7 years performing for audiences large and small from Los Angeles to Boston. The next vocational development took me to the choral music classroom where I arranged for and conducted choirs in grades 6-12. In more recent days, my passion for early and earthy American music has blossomed once again as I share with audiences the music of the deep South, the Appalachian mountains, as well as the Celtic lands of Ireland and Scotland. The dots connecting these regions tells a story of our nation's failures and successes as no history book ever has. In every performance, songs are chosen with a particular audience in mind. Variety, humor, and audience participation keep those audiences engaged with the story in any venue: pubs, concert houses, senior communities and churches alike.
